The Tulare-Kings Chapter is preparing for the upcoming World Ag Expo (February 9-11) in Tulare at the International Agri-Center. The booth will remain in Pavilion C although in a different location. CWA will be selling the “I love Farmers” t-shirts at the event in addition to soliciting new members and donors. Devon Benson will pass a sign-up sheet at the state meeting for state members interested in helping with the event. There are two shifts daily, in which we hope to fill a minimum of two people per shift. Once we have a final list (no later than January 15th), we will register those members for badges, which will be available for pick-up at the show. We will do a raffle again for a gift basket, and offer shopping bags to members who sign up and pay dues at the show. We have asked the Central Valley Chapter to make signs displaying the t-shirt price. Information packets will go out to members who are helping at state’s booth that will contain park/ride info, some talking points, schedule, and other pertinent information. CENTRAL DISTRICT CHAPTER REPORTS FOR JULY 2009

Tulare-Kings Chapter

The Tulare-Kings Chapter will not be having a meeting in July; as July is dark and we enjoy the summer break! We will be gearing up at our August meeting to get ready for the “Down on the Farm” Ag education display and petting farm at the Tulare County Fair in September.

Central Valley Chapter

The Central Valley Chapter has been hard at work these past few months. Our chapter has become increasingly involved in new projects; building a new chapter website, working with State CWA helping plan the Annual State Wide Meeting and our Annual Bus Trip Fundraiser to San Francisco on December 12th. And did we mention we have added another scholarship program where current college students can apply for a scholarship in addition to our annual scholarships given to graduating high school students. We are working harder than ever to keep our chapter involved in agriculture while recruiting new members and we owe a large thank you to our members for helping the Central Valley Chapter accomplish our goals.

Central Valley Chapter

The Central Valley Chapter had it's first guest speaker at our April 23rd meeting. We welcomed Ag Commissioner Carol Hafner of Fresno County who spoke on invasive pests and water. The Commissioner was very candid and answered questions on topics from our food supply to positions on legislation. Every meeting we are welcoming new members because of our ties to Fresno State. We have had a jump in membership with Fresno State Employees and Students.

The Central Valley Chapter has been hard at work these past two months. We are proud to say we have an exceptional 2009 Executive Board; each board member brings her own personal qualities, expertise and knowledge to our chapter. We are honored to be working with such exceptional women.

Our concentration has been on refocusing our chapter's vision and goals for 2009. During the 2009 year we will focus on unity, membership and strengthening our chapter. The Central Valley members have shown there willingness in doing so; showing their abilities to bring new members, new ideas and excitement to our organization. The Central Valley Chapter looks ahead to an active month of March; together we will participate in Proclamation of Ag Day at the Fresno City Council meeting on March 10th and Farm and Nutrition Day on March 20th. The Central Valley Chapter is excited to be involved in these community events and looks ahead with great anticipation to be involved in many more events within our local community.

Central Valley Chapter

The Central Valley Chapter has been hard at work this past month. Our members have been busy planning a bus shopping trip to San Francisco held on April 5th and our 2nd Annual Ag Issues Forum on April 10th. The Ag Issues Forum was held to address our local agricultural issues surrounding our communities. This past month has been a huge success for our chapter and has encouraged us to be more creative in the months to come.

Currently the chapter is preparing for the statewide meeting in Sacramento on May 19th and 20th. Thanks to Julia Berry former Central Valley President; we have secured meetings with, Andrew White, Dan Okenfuss and Senator Wiggins. The chapter looks forward to this event.

Also in the works! We are attempting to plan a Bake-A-Thon for our very own Statewide Meeting in September. The Central Valley Chapter would like our members and other chapter members to bake snacks and desserts for the Country Store located at the Ag Boosters BBQ on Sunday, September 6th. We are attempting to secure a kitchen large enough for all who want to attend. More info to come! We look forward to the upcoming months! Tulare-Kings Chapter

Tulare-Kings CWA has been very busy. We held our Annual Dinner/Dance Fundraiser in the beginning of April. Our fundraiser was very successful, we netted approximately $30,000! This is our chapter only fundraiser and its success supports are many projects and sponsorships throughout the year. Also at our fundraiser we awarded $14,500 in scholarships to students continuing their education in agriculture.

Tulare-Kings CWA is very excited to announce that our web-site www.tularekingscwa.com is now up and running. Our site still needs some work and more content, but we are well on our way. Establishing our own website was one of our chapter’s 2008 goals and we are very excited to make it happen.

Our May chapter meeting was held at Bravo Farms in Traver. It was the first chapter tour meeting that we have had in a long time, so it was great to visit the facility and see their cheese making process. In fact a camera crew was there filming for a national TV program and captured our tour. Some of our member’s may make it on TV! Bravo Farms is a great example of Agri-tourism in our area. They are located right off of highway 99 between Kingsburg and Visalia, you can’t miss them. If you are ever in the area stop by and check them out, their cheese is great!

We all look forward to summer in Tulare and Kings County, including fresh locally grown fruits/vegetables, triple digit temperatures and perhaps things slowing down a little. There is nothing like summer in the Valley!
